Top 5 SEO Tips for Beginners to Get Started

Hello, today I’m going to talk about SEO tips for beginners. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Seach engine optimization is a practice of getting organic traffic from the search engine results. So, it’s the best way to get traffic towards your website because it’s a “free traffic” and you don’t have to pay for it. But it also a long process because you don’t get the traffic in weeks or months. Sometimes it takes 9-10 months or even 2-3 years which is completely dependent upon your SEO strategies.

All major search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo have primary search results, where web pages and other content such as articles, videos, tutorials, local business listings are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers most relevant to users. So, if you want to get higher ranking then you should optimize your website content regarding particular search engine’s guidelines.

There are so many factors that affect your search engine ranking. And most of them I covered on my eBook On-Page SEO – Everything You Need to know which is written by me of course. You can purchase this eBook from Shop section of my blog and it is available on Amazon and InstaMojo. If you are beginner then I think definitely you should read this eBook which helps you to get overall information about on-page SEO.

There are 2 parts of SEO;

  1. On-Page SEO
  2. Off-Page SEO

Both are very important to get better ranking and better indexing on the search engine. So, if you want to optimize your website for better ranking than stick with this article until the end and I’ll give you 5 most important factors that affect your search engine ranking.

5 Most Important Factors that Affect Your Ranking

Relevant Domain Name:

The 1st thing and most important thing is the domain name. After Google Penguin Update, Google is getting very strict about “Web Spam” & “Relevancy”. So, your domain name should be relevant to your content or search terms. No doubt, Google is not giving ranking as per domain name now, but I think it should be relevant. Like if you are writing about WordPress than your domain should be like “wordpress-articles.xxx” or “wordpress-tutorials.xxx”.

Because domain name describes you and your website. So, if it’s relevant then Google doesn’t have to spend more time to figure out what is your website niche.

Title Tag:

Once you select relevant domain name then you should know about some HTML tags which are very important to optimize your content. 1st is title tag which is used to give a title of the web page. Make sure title tag describes your webpage so it must be relevant. Like if you are writing about HP Spectre – The Premium Ultrabook than you should give the title “HP Spectre Review”. So, you have to specify the title of your webpage with title tag which is very important to get higher search ranking.

2nd and the most important tag is h1 tag which is used to give a heading but h1 means heading 1 which is large heading. You can use heading tag h1 to h6 to give different headings to your content. But at the starting of the article or after title you can use this h1 tag to give heading. As per Yoast SEO, you can add only one h1 tag in your content and after that, you can use any h2-h6 tag for subheading in your content. Yoast SEO plugin is the best plugin to optimize WordPress website.

Content:

Content is king for every website or blog. So, the 1st thing is you have to write awesome and very unique content so that people can visit your website or blog more. If you write something unique than chances of getting more traffic, social engagement is high.  You should also take care of target keywords and it should be added to the content.

But make sure you have to manage keyword density otherwise if you add so many keywords in one article than the search engine gets confused which is called Keywords Stuffing. If you are using WordPress then you should download Yoast SEO plugin which gives you complete information about your content, keyword density, readability etc.

Links:

There are 2 types of links, Internal Links & External Links.

Internal Links:

While writing an article you should link your published article from your blog and make sure it should be relevant which is called internal linking. if you are writing an article and you mentioned something in your previous articles then you should link that article and it is very helpful for SEO. You should add at least one internal link into your content.

External Links:

You can build external links by two methods, 1st is, write a unique & engaging content that people love and they share your article on social media or their website. I think this is the best way to create backlinks or external links. Because people will do this for you. You just have to wait and watch! 2nd is, submit your content to other websites and insert links to your website in it but make sure that website should be relevant. External linking is also very helpful to get more traffic from other websites and get higher ranking in search results.

Sites that link to you which have a Google PageRank Rating of 6 or above will help tremendously in your link popularity and Google Ranking.

Submit to Search Engine/Directories:

To get more exposure of your website, you should submit your website to top search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. This is a one-time process. Once you submit your website then they will index your pages.

Here are the search engines that accept free submittals;

  • Google
  • Bing
  • AltaVista
  • Fast Search

Here are the web directories;

  • Open Directory Project
  • Zeal
  • Inktomi (Paid)
