How to Setup External Hard Drive on Mac

Setup External Hard Drive on Mac

Hello, In this tutorial, I’m gonna talk about how to setup External Hard Drive on your mac. It’s very important because you can’t use the external hard drive without make it compatible. Let’s get started!

1st of all, Connect your external hard drive to Mac & Open Disk Utilities by Spotlight or Alfred. Now, you see a window of Disk Utilities. There are 2 sections in the left sidebar.

1st is the Internal hard drive. please do not touch this, because it’s your internal SSD.

2nd is the External hard drive. Now, you can see your connected hard drive in it. Now, Select your external hard drive and click on Erase. The new window is open, there are 3 options. Enter the name. 2nd is Format,  It’s very important, Do it carefully. Now, If you want to use your external hard drive only for Mac then Use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Format. And If you want to use only for windows then select exFAT.

But I’m giving this tutorial for both Mac & PC. So, you can use your external hard drive for both. So, Now 1st select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Format & Select GUID Partition Map scheme. Now click on Erase. It will take around 5-8sec to erase. Now your external hard drive is compatible with Mac(only).

For make disk partition,

Now select, your external hard drive and click on Partition. The new window is open and makes proper partition. For Mac & PC both. OK. Now you have two partitions, select one of them and give the name of that partition. So, If you made this partition for Mac then give a name(like Mac or Time Machine). Now, select the format. If you made this partition for Mac then Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled). And again check the size of the partition. Once changes were done, Click on Apply.

Now, Select other partition, Give the name and select the format. If you use this for PC then select exFAT formatAgain check the partition size. Once changes did click on Apply.

Now, you can see in Disk Utility window, there are 2 other partitions will add. You can also check from a secondary click on it and get info.

All Done!

So, in this way you can make a partition for both Mac & PC and use it for both. Please follow my instruction carefully and if you having any error message while partitions then please do it again. And if you having any problem regarding this then please contact me through comment box or email.

Install/Uninstall Apps on Mac

Install/Uninstall Apps on Mac

Hello, In this tutorial, I’m gonna talk about how to install/uninstall apps on your Mac. Sometimes when you directly Move to Trash from Applications folder then some files are still remaining and it occupies a large amount of space. So, you have to completely uninstall it.

There are 2 different methods to install apps on your Mac;

1st is you can download apps from App Store and It will directly install on your Mac. (but you need Apple ID & Password)

2nd is you have to download apps from other sources & you get (.dmg) disk image file.

There are 2 type of apps;

1st is you don’t have to install .dmg. Just double click on .dmg and you have to move this app into Applications folder and it will install on your Mac.

2nd is package installer type apps. To install it, double-click on (.pkg)

But it can’t open and show some error. Because the app is downloaded from Unidentified Developer. This problem occurs only on Mac OS Sierra, not in the lower version of Mac OS. Now, you have to open System Preferences and go to Security & Privacy. Now, you can see Allow Apps Downloaded. Now click on Open Anyway. Another popup is open and clicks on OK. You will see installation window. Click on Continue.

Now, you have to select the disk where you want to install this application. Click on Continue and Install. You will need Admin password to continue. And click on Install Software.

When the installation is successfully completed. Click on close and it will ask move to trash or keep it. (.pkg file). Make your choice!

Now, you can see an icon of the app is created on the desktop. To delete it, go to Finder & device tab. And select the app and click on the triangle. So, it will remove from your desktop, but make sure, it will not remove/uninstall your application. Now, all done! You can use this application.

To uninstall application,

There are 2 methods;

1st is open your Finder and click on Applications. Select apps which you want to uninstall. And secondary click on it and select Move to trash. For that, you will need your admin password. So, in this way, you can remove apps from your Mac, but it is not proper uninstalling. Because some files of the application are still remaining on your Mac.

So, proper uninstalling apps use the 2nd method. It’s the best method to complete uninstall any application from your Mac. But it cost 39.95$. And you can also use the trial version. But it’s a one-time investment and further updates are also free once you purchased it.

2nd is you have to download CleanMyMac 3 & install it.

Once you install, open the app and click on Uninstall & select the application and click on uninstall.

Now, the application is completely uninstalled from your Mac.
